What is Royalty free music and Copyright free music?
Royalty free music / Copyright free music (or buy-out music) is any music that does not require on-going fees or royalties paid to the seller of the music, commonly referred to as "sync fees" or "synchronization fees". Some companies will charge additional sync fees depending on what the music is used for. The user pays a one-time fee for unlimited usage of the music. You never pay us another penny! Our composers will however get royalties depending on where their music is used. Composers get paid royalties through performing rights organizations such as BMI, ASCAP, and SOCAN. Television networks pay fees to these organizations, who then pay the composers. Under normal circumstances a tv producer or film maker who buys royalty free music does not have to pay royalties to these organizations. If the music is being used in a tv show, the producer will provide a cue sheet with all of the music information including the composer, name and length of cue, performing rights organization, etc. to the broadcaster, but will not be required to pay any additional fees. For more information on cue sheets, click here.

What is not Royalty free music?
Any popular songs or songs that have singing (Other than Public domain songs) are generally not Royalty free. This means that in order to use a popular song in any genre, you would have to negotiate with the publisher as well as the performers of the song. For example; Microsoft paid Madonna aproximately $10,000.000.00usd to use her song "Ray Of Light" in one of their television commercials. This is why more and more people are using Stock Music Store every day.

Why are there prices beside individual tracks when I am browsing collections?
Collections are made up of a number of individual items. By clicking the "Add to cart" icon beside the collection description, you are purchasing all of the idividual items in the particular collection at the same time. You will be receiving all of these items at a much reduced cost by buying them in a collection. However, you still can buy them individually even though you are browsing collections.

Why do some tracks appear in more than one collection?
The reason that tracks sometimes appear in more than one collection is that we make up collections that will appeal to a specific use and certain tracks qualify for more than one. For example, "Flavors Of India", has a wide range of Indian tracks. "Sitar Magic" is a different collection that only contains tracks with Sitar. There are a couple of tracks that meet the criteria for both collections.

What about audio quality?
Our preview demos are medium quality mp-3 format. Our purchased downloads are full broadcast quality 320kps MP3 format.

Why 320kps MP3?
We chose 320kps as our forrmat of choice because of the size and quality. Our very experienced audio engineers did extensive testing of all popular audio formats and found that 320kps MP3s stood up to all other formats in audio quality and at a much smaller size. This makes downloading very fast and storing much easier. We also found that you could hear differences in sound quality when using a bit rate that is lower than 320kps.

How long are tracks?
The lengths of all our tracks are posted above the "Play Demo" buttons. Typically all of our "Full Track" versions are at least two minutes long. Our "Edited Versions" usually include at least a :15, :30, :60 and ID version.

Why are the MP3 files so big?
We sell our music at the highest MP3 quality, which affects the size. Some software programs and websites require smaller MP3 files. This is easy to change. Just convert your purchased MP3s to a smaller bit rate that is acceptable for the format you are using. Programs like iTunes and Windows Media Converter work perfectly for doing conversions like this.

Do all tracks come with a sting/bumper version?
We have a large selection/category of stings and bumpers, but almost every track that isn't in that section also comes with a sting/bumper version. If you don't find what you need in our Sting/Bumper section, check other sections as most tracks come with a short version.

What are cue sheets and why are they important?
Cue sheets are forms that broadcasters and producers need in order to deliver projects. The cue sheet includes information such as name of cue (music), composer, length of cue and project information. As stated in “What is royalty free music”, these forms do not have any financial implications on the purchaser, but rather the broadcaster of your project. Cue sheets are important to composers because they enable them to receive royalties from their performing rights organizations, which in turn allows them to keep writing this great music that you use for your projects. So please respect our composers. Do your duty and fill them out.
